Return of the Kings

So it's old news now...but it deserves repeating. FFG is reprinting EON's best games. Imagine if THE WHITE ALBUM or LONDON CALLING had fallen out of print for almost 30 years and were suddenly coming back into circulation. Yeah, it's that signficant.

Which is why, I think, the DUNE debate matters the most- not necessarily because it's DUNE, but because most people want the game available in its original setting. Just take a look at that petition and all the incredibly intelligent, grammatically correct, and insightful comments people made on it. How could the Herbert estate resist comments just short of "DOOD DUN3 ROX"?

But I didn't write about the DUNE debate for Gameshark.Com since board game politics don't mean much over there. I thought it would be more beneficial to write up a little primer for those who might not be aware of how awesome these games are and why we should be out in front of FFG HQ holding a candlelight vigil until they release them.

The Games of Eon

Hasn't CE been available for online play for some years now?

Fixed.

Yeah, Cosmic Online has been around for like 3-4 years at this point...pretty successful, it seems like.

candlelight vigil? Does this mean I can charge people to set up lawn chairs in my parking spot?

If it is going to be by candlelight, I might point out that other than RPG game night, most of us go home while there is still sun up. Except MN winter, when the sun goes down around 4pm, and I would shudder to see a bunch of geek-sicles frozen in drifts of snow the next morning.

What? No mention of Darkover? I mean Darkover was...

was...

Perhaps we should never speak of Darkover again.

Hey Thaad- who's that guy in the VNV Nation hoodie? I lost mine and now I'm suspicious...

DARKOVER...hmm...the bigger question to me is why didn't FFG step up and get ENTERPRISE ENCOUNTER in the deal...that's s a really fun game. Really, really dumb, but fun.

That's Der Tod. One of the oldest (in terms of Seniority!) staff here, and also our resident DJ/werewolf. He's very handy for music. I can generally wander into his office, say stuff like 'Give me Crunchy!' and have crunchy type CDs on my desk the next day (said request resulted in some Combichrist and Imperative Reaction). (Today's music features two 'Qntal' CDs and one of Heliumvoloa.)

If he stole your VnV nation hoodie, you should not have gotten so sauced at the concert. What were you doing up here at the show anyway?! Don't you have your own clubs?

The White Album? How about Abbey Road instead? I'd rather listen to Her Majesty rather than Revolution 9 anyday.

Eh, truth be told, I'd probably take REVOLVER over either of 'em.

You've got it lucky Thaad...back when I was really into Electro/EBM, it was all about buying $30 import CDs that 7 out of 10 times wound up really, really sucking...none of this MP3 business you youngsters take for granted (shakes cane).

Heh...I _was_ pretty sauced at the last VNV Nation show I saw...guess it was 2001-2002...did that "let's sit in the car for four hours until we sober up" thing afterwards.

Is it my imagination or does the GameShark site takes AGES to load? I literally have to wait minutes everytime I link to it.

Yesterday I was about to criticise your musical allusions; I log on today and Mr Lawson has done it for me. Then you go and post this comment; well Mr Barnes you've just got another Pawnstar brownie point.

That's another good reason why despite your absence from BGG you remain on my buddy list.

WTF am I saying? I should be criticising the whole use of this allusion. You see, like the White Album and London Calling the great Eon games never really went away - they were just published by different firms.

Ha. As long as Michael doesn't go and start talking about how great Alan Jackson and Garth Brooks are, I won't quibble with his musical tastes too much. After all, I'm sure I'm in a minority here for being a long time Rush fan.

(Cue Family Guy "Tom Sawyer clip" in 5...4...3...2...1...)

Great column, Michael. I linked you up with my CE/Dune blog at:

It's read by literally tens of people.

BTW, in answer to an earlier post: CE Online opened in May of 2003.

"Youngsters", Mr. Barnes? Thaadd is only 30, but Tod and I are around what I imagine your age to be.
