The Weekly AT Snapshot, 11/16/07: Viewer Discretion is Advised

Chappy hits us with another beauty...however, in the interests of a safe and decent society, I need to warn you that the following article has been rated

Small children, grandmothers, and that guy who bitched about "Magic Girl" being a highly rated BGG pic are all advised to leave the room immediately.

Now...on with the show! Apparently, we've found Michael Barnes first photographic review of the latest FFG offering.

Thanks, Chappy--still the only "cool" Euro gamer on the planet. Never change, baby.

Man! That game looks totally cool! The rockets on the front are the bomb. Where can I get one?

FFG have announced that it's only available at your local hobby store, and only at full MSRP.

You'll have to make your way through the line of picketing Eurogamers outraged by this news, but you should be able to nab a copy if you hurry.

Come, now! Is my language really that saucy? I'm just trying to bring a street-level credibility to the hobby. If some 15 year old kid reared on the civilization-destroying music of 50 Cent wanders over here, if he doesn't see the F-Bomb a certain number of times he's going to go back to IGN. But if he says "Hey, these guys are down, they say fuck a lot" then the next thing you know they're buying TWILIGHT IMPERIUM.

Dude they should actually make a game like this...but it's like crossbows and catapults, and you have to destroy the other guy's base by launching rockets and shit.

"Saucy?" "Pac-Gentleman?" Complaining about popular culture?

Michael Barnes has been trapped in a time-warp!

Next thing you know, he'll emerge wearing a bowler hat with some bitchin' sideburns, threatening to engage someone in "fisticuffs."

"HAVE AT YOU! BE A GOOD LAD AND ALL THAT ROT!"

And it should be battery operated, and it should have a flame-thrower that automatically incinerates any nearby copy of Agricola.

Yeah! Death to arugula!

I'm already there. I also wear amazing pants and my sideburns connect to my moustache. Not to mention that I have a glass eye with "F:AT" emblazoned on it.

This one definitely made me laugh out loud. Best weekly snapshot yet.

I'm still looking for a copy of Immortals of Change---the SF version of Crossbows & Catapults.

There *IS* a game called Robogear that has a look fairly close to that though. It is a Russian-made minis game with big mechs. Mechs are snap together models that determine hits by spring loaded missle launchers. IMEX imported a bunch, and I think you can pick up bits for the game for a song.

I had IMMORTALS OF CHANGE, I bought it at Zayre for like $5 on clearance. There still might be pieces of it in my parents' basement. It pretty much was exactly the same as CROSSBOWS AND CATAPULTS with scifi trappings replacing the fantasy and the launchers could be customized with these sort of modular piecs. So you could build a giant walker, a tank, a giant walker tank, and so forth.

It looks like the theme is pasted on. Could this be the "special edition Caylus from Essen" that everyone has been raving about? I'd buy it too if it had rockets. I'll buy anything with rockets. I could finally play Puerto Rico the way God intended. "I'll be the the Captain and ship 4 loads of coffee." says Player 1. My turn..I fire off my entire payload of rockets into that ship, sinking it and turning to the rest of table and saying "Any of you other Bitches wanna ship something? I didn't think so."

Immortals of Change sounds awesome. Has anyone tried the new C&C? I might have to get it for my friend's son as an excuse to play it. :)

Agricola is actually quite good. Most of the folks here will hate it, though. Not very interactive, and comes down to a slightly arbitrary counting of points.

In a lot of ways, it is like Puerto Rico where every game is played with some randomly-selected set of buildings from Puerto Rico and all three of its expansions.

Perfect path analysis is totally out the window, and ya kinda have to wing it. And I adore Puerto Rico, so you know where my leanings are, but hate anyone who suggests that my moves were sub optimal. (This actually happened once to me. The most amazing part is that I had just won the game. People suck.)

So, uh, what's the name of the game?

Muzza said...

I only rated this game 'Fairly Fuckin' Awesome' until it was pointed out to me that the missiles were a choking hazard and the whole thing was covered in lead paint. "Totally Fuckin Awesome!" I said.

Ken B. said...

I think the name is "Fucking Awesome Ameritrash Battle Game".

Aarontu said...

I've heard complaints from people who have this awesome battle game that the missiles are usually bent out of the box and you have to spray paint them different colors so you can tell them apart (the little symbols that mean 'nuclear' 'chemical' 'conventional' and 'vortex' missile types are just too small).
